The i-CAT® system uses state of the art advancements in technology to operate a variety of tools. This includes 3D Cone Imaging techniques that provide dentists with an extremely detailed look at a patient's teeth, skeletal structure, and airways. The i-CAT® system allows technicians to use the data they receive in any number of ways, ranging from checking a patient's airways to determining if any type of hidden pathology may be present that would have an effect on surgery or other dental procedures. This type of technology offers immediate results allowing doctors to have real-time access to a patient's information.
A 3D imaging machine looks like a combination of an x-ray machine and an MRI. The patient is seated in a chair with their head rests comfortably against a cushion. The imaging system scans the head and neck collecting information that is digitally processed to create views from almost every perceivable angle, giving dentists, orthodontists, and doctors. an accurate view of the patient's internal structure. The i-CAT® software is designed to offer immediate images, which means there is no waiting and the doctor has immediate access to the information. This type of technology is extremely beneficial in terms of uncovering hidden issues that may not be visible with other diagnostic tools.
3D imaging is used when ordinary x-rays will not provide enough accurate details about a specific area of the mouth, jaw, or airway for the dentist or orthodontist to make an informed decision. It can also provide the doctors with answers pertaining to bone density, bone placement in comparison to other structures, and the location of nerves. 3D imaging has the capability of allowing doctors to examine tumors and other abnormalities giving them an opportunity to gain the advantage over many types of illnesses. Discovering a disease in its earliest stages means more available treatment options. The longer it takes to make a diagnosis, the number of viable treatment options will begin to drop.
